The Workshop
The workshop sits in a small village surrounded by rice terraces and forest, with two active volcanoes within 15 miles. You can see Mount Agung from the workshop every morning. The carvers spend their free time up in the crater of Mount Batur. This isn't a tropical beach studio. It's a mountain village with a thousand-year carving tradition.
There are about a dozen carvers. The vibe is relaxed. This is a multi-generational craft. The carving tradition in Bali stretches back centuries, passed down through families and small village workshops.
Every sculpture is carved entirely by hand. No 3D printers. No CNC machines. No molds. No casting. The carvers use chisels, diamond burr rotary tools, and grinders to shape each piece from a solid block of stone. Every sculpture is made to order, one by one.
In a world where a 3D printer can make almost anything, we believe something this personal should have human hands in it
How We Work
We guarantee the workshop monthly orders year-round, even when business is slow. We provide daily meals, invest in equipment and safety tools, stock first-aid supplies, and offer scholarships for the carvers' children's education. We pay promptly and fairly. No child labor. No exceptions.
This isn't a marketing angle. It's how we operate. The carvers are the reason these sculptures exist, and they deserve consistent, meaningful work.
I spend part of each year in Bali alongside the team. This is a partnership, not a supplier relationship. It has been for over a decade, and it will be for decades more.
Why Mountains
Nobody buys a sculpture of a random mountain.
Every mountain means something to the person who orders it. It's the peak they summited after months of training. The place they proposed. A trip with their dad they'll never forget. The mountain they grew up looking at from their bedroom window.
We've carved mountains for people across every continent. First 14ers. Honeymoon hikes in the Dolomites. The view from a childhood home in New Zealand. A summit that took three attempts.
That's what this is about. Not decor. A piece of someone's story, carved in stone.
